Intertidal

Bones of Iron
I do a lot of poking around. In industrial areas, down side roads. I go down a lot dead-ends, but sometimes you find interesting places.
This intertidal region is behind Woodlot Nature Reserve, near Tooradin, just outside Melbourne.
Their is no road, no property. Yet the remains of an abandoned car lie here. The tides, wind and rain might take a bit of time tidy up the mess. But it looks like it will get there.
My mother comments how it looks like the bones of a long dead creature.
VF Valiant
A bit more poking around reveals another car hiding in the bushes ! The bushes seem in less of hurry to do clean-up.
I posted some pictures of this car on Old & Abandoned Australia. Someone quickly identifies it as a VF Valiant, which were made in 1970. This gives us an idea for how long its been here.
You can find Valiants for sale on the internet for $45,000. You might have to scrounge up a few parts to get that for this beauty.
Fading into summer
Despite appearances, Intertidal is not far away. I revisit several times into summer, trying out different photography techniques and styles.
Summer dries out the pools. The tires fall off the axle.
Trek to the Edwina May
Autumn comes to Intertidal and the rains fill the pools.
Two kilometres from Intertidal is the wreck of the Edwina May. It looks like a cool to thing photograph but its cut off by Tooradin airport, several private properties and a creek.
I check out google maps and try to find a route from space! It looks like a bit of a hike but I might be able to make my through the mangroves from Woodlot lane reserve.
So I gear up, put on my hiking shoes and set off.
Plastic Watcher
Hello Doll head on a stick. You look like you've been here a long time!
Lets see what has kept you attention for so long.
Ah looks nice Doll head on a stick. But I'm searching for the Edwina May.
Bones of Iron 2
What looked like a clearing from space turns out to be a water channel, and I have to admit hiking through the mangroves is hard work. It looks like the Edwina May will have to wait.
However I come across the remains of a water tank, bits of fences. After some poking around find more cars.
These have been rusted down to the chassis and the car buffs on Old & Abandoned Australia have fun trying to guess their age from what they can see of the design. Either same as VF Valiant or maybe as far back as the 20's or 30's.
Goodbye Intertidal
Phew time to head back otherwise I'll be picking my way past the pools in the dark. Its been a perfect adventure Intertidal.
